Delamination
The surface peels away in fish-scale layers; layers can be lifted with a fingernail.
◆ Common Causes
- •Contamination with incompatible resin
- •Excess mold release agent
- •Moisture or under-dried material
- •Melt or mold temperature too low (poor interlayer fusion)
- •Excessive shear at the gate
◆ Solutions
- ✓Purge thoroughly and verify material (DSC for foreign peaks)
- ✓Minimize release agent; clean the mold
- ✓Verify material drying
- ✓Raise melt and mold temperature
- ✓Reduce injection speed (lower shear)
◆ Resin-Specific Notes
PP
Severe delamination if mixed with polar resins (e.g., PA). Segregate regrind.
PA
Sensitive to PE/PP contamination. Strict material control.
Regrind
Leading source of incompatible mixing. Segregate and inspect lots.
