Mold Deposit (Plate-Out)
A white or hazy residue builds up on the mold surface and transfers to the part (plate-out). Unlike structural defects, it wipes off — that is the key tell.
◆ Common Causes
- •Volatiles/additives plating out from the resin
- •Poor or blocked venting → gas condensation
- •Excess mold-release transfer
- •Melt temperature or residence time too high
- •Dead-spot stagnation on specific cavity surfaces
◆ Solutions
- ✓Clean the mold surface periodically
- ✓Add or clean vents
- ✓Minimize release agent
- ✓Lower melt temperature; shorten cycle (residence)
- ✓Inspect the affected cavity surface and hot-runner nozzle
◆ Resin-Specific Notes
PVC
Lubricant/stabilizer plate-out common. Venting and cleaning matter.
FR Grades
Flame-retardant volatiles plate out. Manage temperature and residence.
POM
Formaldehyde-type deposits and gas. Venting essential.
