Stringing/Drooling

Resin drawing into thin strings from the nozzle (stringing) or drooling as droplets before the mold opens.

◆ Common Causes

  • •Nozzle temperature too high
  • •Insufficient decompression (suck-back)
  • •Melt temperature too high
  • •Nozzle orifice too large or worn
  • •Insufficient nozzle-tip cooling

◆ Solutions

  • ✓Lower nozzle temperature
  • ✓Increase decompression (suck-back)
  • ✓Lower melt temperature
  • ✓Review reverse-taper nozzle or orifice size
  • ✓Adjust nozzle-tip temperature profile

◆ Resin-Specific Notes

PA

Low viscosity and semi-crystalline → drools easily. Manage decompression and nozzle temp.

PP

Low viscosity. Watch for excessive nozzle temperature.

PE

Low viscosity. Prone to stringing.
